Eyebrow Transplant Surgery
The solution to the problem of thin and cleft eyebrows
Similar to hair transplantation, eyebrow transplant surgery increases eyebrow hair permanently. The doctor will surgically transfer the hair root cells from the occipital area to the eyebrows. However, the wounds are smaller because the number of grafts is less. Eyebrow transplant surgery requires careful consideration in selecting the size of the hair to grow as it requires a hair with the size similar to eyebrow hair. Moreover, the hair must be arranged in the same direction as the original eyebrow for natural results.
Benefits of eyebrow transplant surgery
It makes eyebrows thicker permanently at once, which is different from using a serum that needs to be used continuously and the result is unpredictable, let alone its effect after stop using it that might be returning to thin brows. Moreover, with eyebrow transplant surgery, eyebrow shape can be designed and choose the thickness to suit the face, such as lifting up the eyebrow tail. This will greatly reduce the amount of time spent doing makeup on the eyebrows.
Who is suitable for eyebrow transplant surgery?
It’s suitable for those who want to beautify their eyebrows permanently. Whether it’s people who have thin eyebrows ,droopy eyebrows from birth or from aging, as well as those who want to cover scar on their brows and those who want the shape of their eyebrows the way they prefer.
Eyebrow transplant surgery method
Similar to hair transplant surgery, patients who wish to receive the surgery must first see a doctor for evaluation and to design a new eyebrow shape. The doctor will calculate the number of grafts that must be used then transplanting the hair root cells to the eyebrows. There are 2 techniques available: FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), which is a technique to transfer the hair root cells by surgically removing the scalp from the occipital area directly, and the FUE (Follicular Unit Excision) which is a technique to transfer the hair root cells, one by one. This technique uses hair follicles at the back of the head without shaving with an additional technique called “non-shaven FUE”. Then the doctor will select complete grafts, preserve them in liquid solution, and plant them in the eyebrows.
Does eyebrow transplant surgery hurt?
Whether it’s a hair transplant, mustache, or eyebrow transplant surgery, the doctor will use anesthesia during the procedure. So, patients can be relieved about feeling hurt. However, there may be only slight pain after the procedure, where painkillers can be taken to relieve the feelings.
Surgery duration
Eyebrow transplant surgery takes about 3-4 hours depending on the number of grafts.
Eyebrow transplant aftercare
During the first 1-2 days after the eyebrow transplant surgery, aftercare are as follows:
- Avoid getting the wound exposed to water to prevent inflammation.
- Clean the eyebrows by gently wiping them with a damp cloth.
- Do not touch the wound around the eyebrows
- Strictly take antibiotics as recommended by doctor
- During recovery, stop smoking and drinking alcohol so the wound heal faster
- Avoid exercise that causes excessive sweating
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight
Normally, the transplanted eyebrow hairs will begin to shed within the first 3-4 weeks after the eyebrow hair transplantation. Then new eyebrow hair will grow within 3 – 4 months. However, the newly grown eyebrows can grow longer, just like hair. Therefore, it is necessary to always use scissors to trim them. Moreover, the brows should not be shaved at all, as shaving may destroy the hair roots, cause ingrown hairs, or new hairs growing unnaturally.
Possible side effects
Side effects that may occur after the surgery are as follows:
- Swelling and redness in the area where the eyebrows are planted and the eyelids are swollen during the first 3-4 days
- The newly grown eyebrow hairs will be darker in color for the first 2 weeks
- During the first 1-2 months, the skin in the area may become acne-prone
- Grown eyebrows may fall out, but it can grow back on its own because the transplanted hair follicle cells are still intact
These symptoms will gradually improve on their own, respectively. However, if these symptoms do not improve or the wound has lymphatic fluid, or experience a fever, it could be a sign of an infected or inflamed wound. A consultation with doctors should be taken immediately.
